On several occasions (for example on "From below"), you feel litteraly immersed in a jungle of sounds: voices seems to hide between other elements, as "wet" soundscapes slowly emerge. Herbst 9's music is totally done with samples, which is amazing. According to the band, there's no real instrument used here. That's really not the feeling you get while listening to them, since a lot of sounds and tones on "From a dark chasm below" are original and well recorded. You have the impression of listening to a strong and massive dark industrial re-reading of some oriental music. Original, well done and addictive, "From a dark chasm below" is a very good surprise and a tour de force by Herbst 9. Let's hope they will be able to do as good in the future. Nicolas
