The album continues in the same vein, with lots of drones, rumbling percussion, and an ominous feel to each song. The whole thing ends on an incredible note, with Causa Mortis: a long, droning track filled with bass. A sample from a film or a news report (maybe) about someone's death is used, which fits wonderfully well within the track and is the best usage of a vocal sample I've ever heard. From a Dark Chasm Below is probably the best dark ambient/death industrial album I've ever heard. Gushing with atmosphere, palpable feelings of fear, and lush organics, everything swirls together just so damn well. The only fault I can possibly point out is the jewelcase packaging, which is a pretty lame thing to nitpick about.... in this day and age I'm used to Tesco presentation, with big folders, handpainted wooden sleeves, and hand-numbered editions. However, the artwork is beautiful, and I get a strange feeling of deja vu from looking at the statue on the cover. (anyone know what it is?) This release gets my highest recommendation - rarely does anything this brilliant all-around get released.
